WMF Japan received a letter of appreciation from the Embassy of India in Tokyo in recognition of its community service efforts. Following Typhoon Hagibis in October 2019, which struck northern Japan and impacted over 1,000 people while claiming scores of lives, WMF volunteers carried out a cleanup initiative in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture—one of the areas most severely affected by the storm.
